Blog Marketing Tips Utilizing Other People's Blogs

These blog marketing tips are perfect for the blogging beginner. If you are new to blogging, you may want to post to blogs instead of writing your own blog. This can also be an excellent way to market your website and you don't have to worry about maintaining your own blog. But before you jump in, you should do a bit of research to find the best blogs to post to.

Research

Blog marketing tip number one is to do plenty of research. The place to go to do your blog research is Technorati.com . They rank blogs by their frequency of use. You will select keywords that are relevant to your product or service and search for blogs that are posting on those keywords.

Let me explain a bit about how Technorati ranks blogs. Two items are of particular importance to you: authority and rank.

Authority

This tells you the number of blogs that are linked to a website in the last 6 months. It tells you the number of blogs, not the number of links. For example, if one blog is linked to another 3 times, it is only counted once because the links come from the same blog.

Rank

This tells you how far a blog is from the top. Rank is based on authority. The blog with the highest authority is ranked #1. The larger the rank, the further from the top it is. For example, if a blog is ranked #100,000, that means there are 99,999 blogs between that blog and the #1 spot.

Here is the best way to conduct your blog research.

  • In "blog search settings" change "with authority" to "a lot of authority".

  • This will give you the most popular blogs.

  • Do an advanced search.

  • In the "keyword search" area, type your keywords into the box entitled "with exact phrase".

    Search "all blogs"

  • When you get your search results:

  • Click the "blogs" tab so you look at the blogs, not individual posts.

Look for blogs with the highest authority.

  • Create a list of possible blogs to post to.

  • Choose 20-30 blogs with the highest authority.

Click on the blog title and check the blog's rank (Look for the blogs with the best rank).

Check out the blog itself by clicking on the blog's link.
    1. Look at the blog's quality.
    2. Is the author of a similar mind?
    3. Click on the "Fans" tab to see the blog's visitors.
    4. Are they possible customers?

After going through this searching process, you should have a list of at least 10 blogs to post to that are relevant for your product or service. Be sure you only post high quality content on these blogs and actually contribute to the conversation. DO NOT SPAM. Now get to posting to increase your visibility!

What to Post on Blogs

Blog marketing tip number two is to start posting! After choosing a list of blogs to post to, you are ready to start posting. You have several options. It is important that you only add useful comments that are helpful to others. Further the conversation, provide insight, be helpful. Do not under any circumstances post to blogs just to get more links. This is spamming and it is wrong.

You have a couple of options in providing comments to blogs.

Article Comment

It is always better to offer more information, not to criticize. Keep your posts short and open-ended, keep the conversation rolling. Try not to upset the blog author or he won't post anything you say. Also, don't forget to put your link with your comment.

Ask to be Mentioned

You can also email the blog owner and ask him to mention you in his blog. When you email the owner, explain what you liked about his blog and how your product or service may be useful or beneficial for his readers. You can offer to post a link to his blog on your web site in trade for a mention in his blog. However it turns out, be sure to thank the blog owner for his time.

These blog marketing tips should get you started posting to blogs quickly. Monitor the blogs from the list you created. It's best to post a comment at least once a week. But remember, only post good content. Make a contribution to the conversation. DO NOT SPAM just to post your link.
