Driving Traffic to Website, Your Marketing Budget

Before driving traffic to website through online marketing, you need money. Big businesses can spend millions of dollars on their advertising per year. You probably can't. Don't be discouraged, you can still compete with the competition with a high quality product and good ad copy. Just know that in order to advertise, you need some working capital, that is, cash!

If you are just starting out, you should work with some of the free forms of advertising that are mentioned on this site. Just because they are free does not mean they are ineffective. Many marketers continue to use the free methods of advertising even after building an marketing budget, they work that well if done properly.

Once you get some money coming in, it is a good idea to set aside some of the money for advertising. I recommend 10% of your sales. This number may seem high, especially when it is coming out of your profits, but you have to put some money back into your business in order for you to profit from it in the long term.

Many businesses have failed because the owners did not put anything back into the company for advertising purposes.

After a time, you will have enough working capital to begin paid advertising. Remember, you don't want to thin out your money by advertising a little bit everywhere, or a little bit all the time. Use your budget to buy a larger ad or place an ad once in a media with large circulation.

Example:

You can buy a 1 inch ad in a magazine that will run for a full year, or you can buy a half page ad that will run for 3 months. You will do better with the half page ad because more people will see it, even though it will be listed for a shorter period of time.

Just be sure that you keep your target audience in mind and place your ad in a magazine that they will purchase and read.

If you have some working capital when you begin your home business, you can work with the free methods and also begin placing ads right away.

Most small businesses fail within the first two years. Before driving traffic to website through paid advertisement, you should build up your working capital. Do this and you will be sure to continue your home business long term.
